Albee Square Montessori (13K 482) The first Montessori district public school in NYC will embrace the Montessori method which encourages children to learn abstract concepts with concrete materials – along with embedded explicit teaching of the science of reading and non-routine problem solving in math.Contact charter schools directly to learn how to apply. Charter SchoolsĬharter schools have a separate admissions process. If you are interested in a Dual Language program, be sure to add that specific program to your kindergarten application. The goal is for English proficient students and English Language Learners to not only develop new language skills and learn academic subjects in two languages, but also practice and share language and culture with each other, becoming bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural. In Dual Language programs, students are taught in two languages. During the Kindergarten application period, you can also view your child's zoned school, if any, on MySchools.nyc. To check if you have a zoned school, enter your address at or call 311 to find your school district and learn about any zoned school(s). There are three districts in NYC where all the schools are nonzoned, and students living in these districts have priority to attend all schools in the district. Most non-zoned schools give priority to students who have siblings attending, who are current pre-K students, or who live in the district. Please note that your zoned school may not be the school that is closest to your address. Some zoned schools have room to make offers to children living outside of their zone. Most zoned schools make kindergarten offers to all students living in the zone. Your zoned school, if you have one, is the school where your child is most likely to go to kindergarten. Most NYC families have a zoned school, which means they live in an area zoned for a specific school and their children have priority to attend it. There are two types of schools that you can add to your kindergarten application. In case you can’t already tell, we loved “Gifted” and highly recommend it! “Gifted” is opening in select theaters April 7th and everywhere on April 12th.Start exploring kindergarten programs around the time your child starts pre-K. ![]() My 12 year old was fine with the content and very much enjoyed the story line but I’m not sure I would bring a child younger than 10. There are a few strategically placed swear words and a scene where the dad brings a woman home from a bar and they are shown waking up the next morning together. Is it appropriate for kids? I’m going to say that it depends on their age and maturity. I have not experienced that in a long time. At one particularly moving scene, people in the theater I was in were openly weeping. “Gifted” taps every emotion in your heart more than once. One minute you are ahhh-ing over something adorable that was said, the next minute you want to punch a character (for me it was the grandmother!), and the next minute you are laughing while wiping away the tears that were just making their way down your cheeks. © 2017 Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation All Rights Reserved. Mckenna Grace as “Mary Adler” and Chris Evans as “Frank Adler” in the film GIFTED. ![]() I am so excited to see where else Mckenna pops up in the future – a young actress with this kind of talent is one to watch! Reason 2 – the message. None of the more emotional scenes felt the least bit forced and every toothless smile felt real. While I enjoyed her in both those other roles, they in no way prepared me for her ability to portray Mary as an adorable and multi-dimensional first grader with such heart-tugging accuracy. Fuller House fans will recognize her as Rose, the Titanic fanatic from the second season. If you are a Designated Survivor fan like me, you may be familiar with her role as Penny Kirkman, the President’s daughter. She manages to convey how much Mary means to her without over doing it and the relationship between the two characters feels very natural. Little surprise there as I have yet to see her in a role I didn’t love. He manages to portray a man who feels things deeply but shares very little of it openly and punctuates that with the perfect amount of brooding looks and understated reactions. If you have only seen Chris Evans as Captain America, be prepared to be very impressed at his versatility. This is in no small part due to the excellent cast, so let me start there. “Gifted” manages to make its viewers laugh and cry, sometimes almost simultaneously. © 2017 Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation All Rights Reserved (From L-R): Octavia Spencer as Roberta Taylor, McKenna Grace as Mary Adler and Chris Evans as Frank Adler in the film GIFTED.
